FAQs

Have any questions about the space, or what to expect when getting a massage in general? Read on! Questions added periodically. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me any time

Why do you say massage AND bodywork?

The short answer for me is that bodywork is an umbrella term and can include all kinds of modalities including massage.  I am a Massage Therapist, so as I’m sure you guessed, I practice Massage!  I also incorporate many other techniques while working on/with the body like cupping, gua sha, stretching, aromatherapy, breath workheat, etc to help facilitate deeper muscular tension relief and nervous system restoration.

What is your space like? Where is it located? Where do I park? Is it wheelchair accessible?

I am located inside the Gotham Building on Albina and Interstate in N Portland. 2256 N Albina Ave, Suite #162. The building has a locked gate and locked door for which you will receive a door code prior to your appointment. The building has 2 gender neutral restrooms inside, and while on an incline, the building is ADA accessible. I do not have a hydraulic table that lowers to the ground, but the table’s lowest height is 24 inches. Building is located across the street from the Trimet Interstate and Albina Max stop. Street parking is available, I would allow extra time if you are coming here for the first time. For images and map see the contact page.

Once inside the building, if my door is closed, you are welcome to wait in the hallway outside the room before I come out to greet you. I have filtered water available for you when you arrive inside the room. I keep the room gently-lit, there is galaxy lighting on the ceiling, and some accent lighting.

What is your mask policy? Air Filter?

I have masks available if you would like one, or if you want us both to wear them during your session. I usually wear a mask when clients are face up, and will absolutely wear a mask per request.

There is a HEPA filter in the room that runs throughout the entire session. I follow all industry standards for cleaning and sanitizing.

Do I have to talk/not talk during a session? I don’t want to be rude.

It is not rude to not talk during a massage! While we will always be kind and respectful to one another, this is a space for you to feel restored, so spend your time here however you think you will feel restored. In many areas of our lives, we are expected to be making small talk and I am here to tell you, that is not expected here during a massage. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good chat, but this is your time you have carved out for yourself, and I want you to feel comfortable spending your time however you want.  You are here for your body and whatever you need that day.  If that means you’d like to chat that’s cool, I love connecting with clients, but if that means you want to zone-out, that is absolutely great.  I will check in on pressure and comfort so we can maintain a safe experience for you. If we are working on targeted work, we may communicate more during a session. I will always make sure you are keeping me posted on any adjustments you need, but as far as conversation, this is entirely up to you. I am not the practitioner who will talk your ear off. We have to do a lot of things in life, I would like for you to feel that this is a time you can relax and not do anything at all.

What do I wear/not wear while getting a massage?

Dress down to your comfort level” is something you may have heard before getting on the massage table & that can mean many different things. And what you wear on the massage table can vary in different settings.  Some places that offer massage prefer you to be fully clothed (ex: maybe a rigorous sports style massage at a Physical Therapy office where lots of stretching or fast movements will be done).  For this setting, and the style of bodywork we will generally do (with the goal of pain reduction/relaxation/stress support usually involved), most of the time it is perfectly ok to dress down to nothing or leave just underwear on. If not, I will always let you know. You will be covered at all times by the blanket/sheet other than the area we are working on.  I may do techniques that are long sweeping movements (called Effleurage in Western Massage), and I use oil, so usually less clothing is preferred by clients to avoid getting oil on garments. If we work together over a period of time, there may be a time where wearing shorts makes sense if we come up witha treatment plan and it sounds good to do lots of stretching that day, but we will always discuss that before your next session. Ultimately, what you wear on the massage table here is entirely up to you and how you feel the most comfortable while getting a massage that day, and each session could look different for you. If you would like to be fully clothed, we can do modify techniques over clothing. We will always talk in person before each session as well. I am always here for any questions or clarifications.
